Requirements for
School Education Board Membership

The Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) only admits recognized school education boards in India and abroad that can provide school education and meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • The Education Board should be a registered society or trust.
  • An Act of Parliament, a State Legislature, or an Executive Order issued by the Center or State Government can only establish Education Boards.
  • All education boards must have approval, recognization, or any other equivalent award from the government or state education board.

COBSE's functions

  • For member organizations, COBSE provides workshops and seminars on study materials, IT-enabled teaching techniques, and curriculum modifications.
  • All Indian school boards are represented by the 'COBSE' conference.
  • COBSE is a service organization that facilitates communication and acts as a repository for information.
  • In addition to offering assistance with the implementation of federal and state government policies, COBSE promotes educational programs for females.
  • Scholarships are provided by COBSE to deserving students who are unable to afford to continue their studies.
  • Based on quarterly research conducted throughout India, COBSE will suggest short-term, certificate, and vocational courses for classroom instruction.

A few words about COBSE

All Indian school boards are members of the voluntary Council of Boards of School Education in India (COBSE).

COBSE collaborates with the MHRD, the Government of India, and other statutory bodies at the national level, including the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE), the National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA), and the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in India for the reason of pushing forward and sustainably developing school-level educational programs.

 

Establishment

First of all, it is to be recollected that the COBSE, a non-profit organization, was born in the eighties of the last century. Its branch offices are in the Eastern, Western, Northern, and Southern regions. Its head office is located in New Delhi.

Membership

Membership requirements

  • The Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) admits recognized School Education Boards in India and abroad that provide school education and meet the following eligibility requirements.
    A. Member - An organization that has interests and activities relevant to the objectives and practices of COBSE may become a member.
    B. Associate Member - An association that is active in the field of school education in a country or region where a national or regional representative organization has not yet been established admitted as a associate member previously may become a associate member. Only one organization from each country or region is to be admitted as a associate member.
    C. Benefactor Member - An organization that is in harmony with the goals and aspirations of COBSE and that agrees to provide COBSE with financial or other support to enable it to make awards or grants or otherwise to defray the cost of its activities, may become a benefactor member.
  • The Education Board's syllabus must align with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education 2023.
  • The Education Board that provides school education may submit an application on letterhead, along with the syllabus, all relevant paperwork, and a non-refundable processing fee of Rs 50 in favor of Council of Boards of School Education payable at New Delhi.
  • The Education Board may transmit a copy of the resolution adopted by the Boards of Directors / Management, indicating that the Boards require membership in COBSE, along with the Board Memorandum adopted at the General Meeting and the Society's rules and regulations.
  • The COBSE Committee will assess the application in accordance with its norms and procedures. The Board must submit the appropriate fee as soon as COBSE grants membership to the Board.
  • If a board disregards COBSE directives, engages in illegal behavior, or provides misleading information, COBSE has the authority to revoke their membership.
  • The court will only have jurisdiction over disputes between parties in the Delhi union area at all times.
